Ya i saw that one too

This looks like some private game that some ppl made up to play with their friends or a small online community. I wouldn't make a big deal about it...

Because what would be stupid. I don't know about the crazy suing laws in the USA, but i think as long as it's not identical to the orginal you can get away with it.

I.E Kilroy Stoneskin / Leroy Jenkins

This outwar thing looks like some crappy web based mmorpg thing with skills stolen from all different mmorpgs. Probably stolen artwork from them too, hope it gets closed down tbh.

That's obviously a default date. The 'internet' wasn't even around in 1969.

usually, so long as no one makes any serious money, no one cares (except the fans)

i mean, by artwork *borrowing* patrick woodruff should be sueing Games Workshop, since one of their crappy space marine warhammer2k units has been shown in their magasize holding a banner that has his artwork ripped off on it, *the hedgebank nun, recolored in blues and greys*

to show the other example, of cash involved....remember Blakes seven? remeber the spaceship from it, that thing with the 3 green engines, they called the Liberator? well a guy used to make models of it, even made models in kit form that you could buy from shops.
once he made enough cash that the bbc nd similar companies took notice of him, he was dealt with and shut down and so on...

so as long as they dont make any money or at least, and SERIOUS money form it.....most groups say, Who Cares?

I think a bit of borrowing and ripping-off is good and only natural.

Just some game having a little harmless fun. They're hardly making money from it. I was contemplating setting up an RP forum using skills and using some GW icons to represent them. Would that be unacceptible? I think not.

For adrenaline and cripple, icons were also stolen from GW. I also think that most of the other skill icons were not made by that group of people, all of them seemingly too proffesional for something like that.

A few stolen peices of artwork is nothing to go crazy about, IMO. They're just Icons.

Funniest part is the Vital Blessing icon is probably the most detailed skill icon of all of them.

Outwar sucks anyway. It is only for people that have nothing better to do but spam the link to their friends to trick people for "points"

Cripple and Adrenaline both look like they were taken from an old-school game called Meridian 59--the spells "Enfeeble" and "Super Strength," respectively.

See http://www.gilcon.net/meridian/ for more info.

Obsidian Flesh is much too detailed to be the original artwork. Let me see if I can somehow link the images from Gilroy's.. I doubt it, though.

http://www.gilcon.net/meridian/image...r_strength.gif <-- Look familiar?

http://www.gilcon.net/meridian/images/qor_enfeeble.gif <-- This isn't isn't as obvious. But I still think it was the source.

- edit -

Actually, the more I look at it, I don't think they used Enfeeble. Rather, they just took Super Strength and flattened the bicep. ;P

75,000 addicted players each that spen about 10$ a month on this game and the money they get from advertisements make the owners a nice little profit...

I could be wrong, but copy-righted material are owned in perpetuity. This is why properties like Conan and Lord of the Rings are still making ALOT of money for their corresponding estates.

I believe that you are think about design patents (I think) which used to last 15 years (it's now 10). There is also an utility patent which last 19 years.

Copyright doesn't need to be renewed; it is automatically created upon creation of the work, and expires _50 to 70 years after the death of the artist_.

LOTR, for instance, doesn't go public domain until 2043. Plus the length of copyright has been repeatedly increased; there's an old joke (with considerable truth in it) that the length of copyright period is increased every time Mickey Mouse is about to go public domain.

Basically, for computer stuff, no copyrights have ever expired.

Most of the icons for their skills are just generic images (mushroom cloud on one skill? ) and look like they came from Google Image Search. I'm betting whoever made that doesn't even know where the vital blessing icon comes from. Go figure.

If you had bothered even reading the thread..

.. it's not an issue of copying ideas.

It's an issue of actually STEALING the artwork.

They didn't draw it and--oops!--their artwork looks similar to Guild Wars artwork or Meridian artwork. It IS the aforemention's artwork.
